About Amanda
Amanda was born in Espoo, Finland, but grew up on the Åland islands in the Finnish archipelago. She was interested in storytelling at an early age, and was a creative child that both wrote and illustrated her own stories as well as obsessing over the stories of others. At 8 year's old she got an intense fascination for The Lord of The Rings triology when it was filmatized in the early 2000s. A few years later she discovered photography and it became her main medium for the next 15 years.
It was during her university education in graphic design that she fell in love with illustration again, and that has remained her favorite media since then. She graduated from Linköping University, Sweden, in 2021 and has since worked both as a graphic designer and communication specialist while growing her freelance illustration career. She has recently taken the the step to fulltime freelancing and dreams of creating stories that make an impact on people and the way they view the world.
Today Amanda works mostly digitally in either Procreate or Adobe Photoshop, but is working more and more in traditional medias and techniques. She especially enjoys working with gouache and colored pencils.
Locally anchored in a global world
Amanda draws inspiration from the world around her. She enjoys depicting both far off places, completely imaginary places as well as her home on Åland islands. The past year's she's been popping up at different market places all over Åland islands, and her illustrated products are available in several different local art and craft shops and bookstores. Every year she produces a range of Ålandic graduation cards, which have been greatly appreciated by the island locals.
